Target Information
Ubiquitin-conjugating E2 enzyme variant proteins form a distinct subfamily within the E2 protein family. They share sequence similarity with other ubiquitin-conjugating enzymes but lack the conserved cysteine residue essential for catalytic activity. The encoded protein is nuclear-localized and can activate transcription of the human FOS proto-oncogene. It is implicated in differentiation control via modulation of cell cycle behavior. Multiple alternatively spliced isoforms exist, and a pseudogene is located on chromosome 20. Co-transcription with an upstream gene produces a rare fusion transcript (Kua-UEV).
