Target Information
The ZBTB family of proteins consists of diverse zinc finger proteins containing a BTB (BR-C, ttk, and bab) domain. Similar to Kaiso, ZBTB4 binds methylated DNA and represses transcription. It associates with the Sin3/histone deacetylase co-repressor complex and regulates expression of P21CIP1 as part of a heterodimeric complex with Miz1. Depletion of ZBTB4 promotes cell cycle arrest in response to p53 activation and suppresses apoptosis through P21CIP1 regulation. HIPK2 phosphorylates and down-regulates ZBTB4 under normal conditions, with degradation increasing upon DNA damage.
