Target Information

Phosphorylation of serine residues on the I-kappa-B proteins by IKK kinases, including IKBKB, marks them for destruction via the ubiquitination pathway, allowing activation of the NF-kappa-B complex.
IKK beta (Inhibitor of nuclear factor kappa-B kinase subunit beta) is a serine kinase essential for NF-κB signaling, activated by inflammatory cytokines, bacterial or viral products, DNA damage, and other cellular stresses.
It functions as part of the canonical IKK complex, phosphorylating inhibitors of NF-κB on critical serine residues, leading to their ubiquitination and degradation. This process releases NF-κB, enabling its nuclear translocation and activation of genes involved in immune response, growth control, and apoptosis protection.
Mutations in the IKK beta gene can cause Immunodeficiency 15 (IMD15).
