Target Information
Calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase that functions autonomously after Ca(2+)/calmodulin binding and autophosphorylation. It is involved in dendritic spine and synapse formation, neuronal plasticity, and regulation of sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca(2+) transport in skeletal muscle. In neurons, it plays an essential structural role in actin cytoskeleton reorganization, promoting dendritic spine formation and synaptic plasticity. Also participates in skeletal muscle function modulation in response to exercise, regulating SR Ca(2+) transport and Ca(2+) release through phosphorylation of triadin and phospholamban.
