Target Information
DIABLO (Smac) is a mitochondrial protein that activates various forms of apoptosis, likely through neutralization of IAP family apoptosis inhibitory proteins. During apoptosis, Smac exits the mitochondria and enters the cytosol. Mitochondrial-mediated apoptosis plays a critical role in development and tissue homeostasis, with dysregulation linked to malignancies. Smac/DIABLO also regulates sensitization of cancer cells to apoptosis, both immune- and drug-induced.
