The immunogen is 87% (13/15) homologous to the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) Spike protein.
Cross-reactivity has not been empirically tested.
Suggested positive control: Transfected mouse melanoma cell lysate.
Target Information
Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) is caused by a human coronavirus. Human coronaviruses are a major cause of upper respiratory tract illness, such as the common cold. These viruses are positive-stranded RNA viruses with the largest known RNA genomes (27–31 kb).
The first step in coronavirus infection involves the viral spike protein (139 kDa), which binds to host cell receptors. This spike protein is the main surface antigen of the coronavirus. The glycosylated spike protein, as well as the nucleocapsid protein, can be detected in infected cell culture supernatants using antisera from SARS patients.
