Target Information
The basic helix-loop-helix transcription factor TCF21/Pod1 (also called capsulin or epicardin) is involved in kidney, lung, and spleen organogenesis. It is also essential for normal development of the testes and ovaries. TCF21/Pod1 participates in the transcriptional repression of steroidogenic factor 1 (Sf1/Nr5a1/Ad4BP), an orphan nuclear receptor regulating multiple genes (including Scc) that mediate sexual differentiation.
