Target Information
Gemin 3 is a member of the DEAD box protein family characterized by the conserved Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD) motif and functions as an RNA helicase. These proteins are involved in RNA secondary structure alterations, including translation initiation, splicing, and ribosome/spliceosome assembly. Gemin 3 is a component of the survival of motor neurons (SMN) complex and may play a catalytic role in RNP function. Dysfunction of Gemin 3 is associated with spinal muscular dystrophy and muscular atrophy.
