Reproductive homeobox on X chromosome 9 (Rhox9), also known as Reproductive Homeobox (Rhox) protein GPBOX, is a nuclear protein product of a 12 X-linked novel homeobox gene family that plays an important role during postnatal testis development.
Members of this family contain a conserved 60-amino-acid DNA-binding homeodomain and function as transcription factors involved in developmental processes such as DNA-dependent transcriptional regulation, body-plan specification, pattern formation, and cell fate determination.
Understanding this family contributes to insights into the development and physiology of the human reproductive system.
