MRPL23는 미토콘드리아 내 단백질 합성에 관여하는 핵 유래 단백질로, 39S 소단위체 구성 요소입니다.
포유류 미토리보솜은 28S와 39S 소단위체로 구성되며, 단백질 대 rRNA 비율이 약 75%로, 원핵 리보솜과 반대입니다.
또한, 포유류 미토리보솜은 5S rRNA를 포함하지 않습니다.
MRPL23 유전자는 11번 염색체의 각인 유전자 영역에 위치하지만, 양대립 유전자 발현(biallelic expression)을 보입니다.
