Target Information
MAP2K1 (MEK1) kinase is a dual-specificity protein kinase functioning in MAPK cascades that regulate cell growth and differentiation. It is activated by various growth factors, cytokines, membrane depolarization, and calcium influx. Activation occurs via phosphorylation at serine residues 218 and 222 by Raf1. MEK1 is involved in stress response, apoptosis, and cytokine-induced proliferation. Mutations in MAP2K1 can lead to cardiofaciocutaneous syndrome.
