TRPM2는 나트륨, 칼륨, 칼슘 이온 채널을 포함하는 이온 운반 단백질 계열에 속합니다. 이 계열은 6개의 막관통 헬리스를 가지며, 마지막 두 헬릭스가 이온 선택성을 결정하는 루프를 둘러싸고 있습니다.
TRPM2는 산화 스트레스에 의해 활성화되며 세포 사멸에 대한 감수성을 증가시킵니다. 또한 자유 세포내 ADP-리보스에 의해 조절되는 칼슘 투과성 양이온 채널입니다.
TRPM2 유전자의 여러 대체 스플라이싱 전사체가 보고되었으나, 이들의 전체 길이는 아직 알려지지 않았습니다.
