Product Specific Information

This antibody detects endogenous levels of total UTS2R / GPR14 protein.

Target Information

The Urotensin-II receptor is highly expressed in the heart and pancreas, as well as in arteries and smooth muscle. Low transcript levels are found in the brain, particularly in the thalamus and superior occipital gyrus.
G-protein Coupled Receptors (GPCRs) form one of the largest families of signaling molecules, with over a thousand predicted members. All GPCRs share a structural motif of seven membrane-spanning helices and exist in both active and inactive forms.
Activation involves ligand-induced conformational changes that trigger G-protein signaling and downstream effectors. Negative regulation mechanisms of GPCRs play crucial roles in cellular physiological responses and are key targets for drug discovery.
Notably, GPCR-targeted drugs such as Zyprexa (Eli Lilly) and Claritin (Schering-Plough) have achieved significant success in mental health and allergy treatment markets.
