This antibody detects endogenous levels of total LRP2 protein.

Target Information

The low density lipoprotein-related protein 2 (LRP2), also known as megalin, is a multi-ligand endocytic receptor expressed in various tissues, primarily in absorptive epithelial tissues such as the kidney.
This glycoprotein has a large amino-terminal extracellular domain, a single transmembrane domain, and a short carboxy-terminal cytoplasmic tail.
Its extracellular ligand-binding domains interact with diverse macromolecules including albumin, apolipoproteins B and E, and lipoprotein lipase.

LRP2 plays a critical role in the reuptake of numerous ligands such as lipoproteins, sterols, vitamin-binding proteins, and hormones.
It also participates in cell signaling, binding extracellular ligands like parathyroid hormones and sonic hedgehog, and cytosolic ligands such as MAP kinase scaffold proteins and JNK interacting proteins.
Recycling of this receptor is regulated by phosphorylation of its cytoplasmic domain.
Mutations in this gene are associated with Donnai-Barrow syndrome (DBS) and facio-oculoacoustico-renal syndrome (FOAR).
