Target Information

Dyneins are multi-subunit, high molecular weight ATPases that interact with microtubules to generate force by converting the chemical energy of ATP into mechanical energy of movement.
Cytoplasmic or axonemal Dynein heavy, intermediate, light, and light-intermediate chains are components of minus end-directed motors, transporting cellular cargos toward the cell center.
Axonemal Dynein motors contain one to three non-identical heavy chains and cause sliding of microtubules in the axonemes of cilia and flagella, enabling ciliary motion.
Cytoplasmic Dynein is a ~12 subunit complex including two heavy chains, two intermediate chains anchoring Dynein to cargo, four smaller intermediate chains, and several light chains.
It is essential for organelle transport, centrosome assembly, and other cellular functions.
The carboxy-terminus is conserved for microtubule-dependent motility, while the amino-terminal regions are variable.
Dynein activity is regulated by proteins such as Dynactin, LIS1, and nudel (nudE-like).
