Target Information
BUBR1 is a member of the Ser/Thr protein kinase family and a component of the mitotic checkpoint that delays anaphase until all chromosomes are properly attached to the mitotic spindle. Defects in spindle checkpoints can lead to genetic instability and malignant transformations. Human cells express two related checkpoint kinases derived from the BUB1 gene: hBUBR1 and hBUB1. These kinases monitor kinetochore-microtubule interactions and are essential for normal mitotic progression. BUBR1 has been detected in human cancers and identified as a binding partner of BCSG1, which may accelerate breast cancer progression by compromising mitotic checkpoint control.
