Target Information
NDUFS5 (NADH dehydrogenase [ubiquinone] iron-sulfur protein 5) is a subunit of mitochondrial complex I, located in the mitochondrial inner membrane. Complex I is the first and largest enzyme in the electron transport chain of oxidative phosphorylation, responsible for oxidizing NADH and transferring electrons to ubiquinone, ultimately reducing oxygen to water.
NDUFS5 is a 106 amino acid protein not directly involved in catalysis. It is ubiquitously expressed in human tissues, with higher levels in heart, skeletal muscle, liver, kidney, and fetal heart.
Defects in complex I subunits are associated with various myopathies and neuropathies.
