Target Information
Accurate chromosome segregation during mitosis requires proper kinetochore assembly at the centromere of each chromatid, forming a dynamic interface with mitotic spindle microtubules. The kinetochore assembly includes the multisubunit CENP-H/I complex, which can be divided into three functional classes based on phenotype analysis. One of these classes is the CENP-O class of proteins, with CENPO as the representative member. These proteins form a stable complex essential for kinetochore function and recovery from mitotic spindle damage. CENPO has also been identified as an autoantigen in a subset of anti-centromere antibody (ACA)-positive scleroderma patients.
