COL15A1 유전자는 type XV collagen의 α-체인을 암호화하며, FACIT collagen family에 속합니다. Type XV collagen은 다양한 조직에서 발현되지만, basement membrane zone에서 가장 강하게 발현되어 basement membrane을 결합 조직과 연결하는 역할을 합니다. C-terminal fragment인 restin은 항혈관신생 특성을 가지며 endostatin과 유사합니다. Mouse 연구에서 collagen XV 결핍 시 근육 및 미세혈관 퇴화가 관찰되었습니다.
