Target Information
The Rhomboid family of proteins consists of conserved polytopic membrane serine proteases involved in growth and development.
RHBDD1 is highly expressed in the testis and participates in the cleavage of BIK, a proapoptotic member of the Bcl-2 family.
Overexpression or RNAi suppression of RHBDD1 in 293 cells modulates BIK-mediated apoptosis, indicating that RHBDD1 regulates apoptotic activity.
In GC-1 spermatogonia cells, suppression of RHBDD1 expression by RNAi causes loss of survival and differentiation ability, suggesting a role in mammalian spermatogenesis.
