Target Information

This intronless gene encodes a transcription factor belonging to the high mobility group (HMG)-box family of DNA-binding proteins. The SRY protein acts as the testis-determining factor (TDF), initiating male sex determination. Mutations in this gene can result in XY females with gonadal dysgenesis (Swyer syndrome), while translocation of the Y chromosome segment containing this gene to the X chromosome can cause XX male syndrome.
