Target Information
VE-cadherin is a member of the cadherin superfamily located in a six-cadherin cluster on the long arm of chromosome 16. It is involved in loss of heterozygosity events in breast and prostate cancer. VE-cadherin is a calcium-dependent cell-cell adhesion glycoprotein composed of five extracellular cadherin repeats, a transmembrane region, and a conserved cytoplasmic tail. Acting as a classic cadherin, it mediates homophilic cell adhesion and plays a key role in endothelial cell biology by maintaining intercellular junction cohesion and organization. An alternative splice variant has been described, but the full-length sequence has not yet been determined.
