For reconstitution, add 100 µL distilled water to achieve a final antibody concentration of approximately 1 mg/mL.
For conjugation experiments using this carrier-free antibody, perform an additional desalting step (e.g., Zeba Spin Desalting Columns, 7K MWCO, 0.5 mL, Product #89882).
Target Information
Tau is a neuronal microtubule-associated protein predominantly found on axons. It promotes tubulin polymerization and stabilizes microtubules.
The C-terminus binds axonal microtubules, while the N-terminus binds neural plasma membrane components, suggesting Tau functions as a linker between them.
Tau localization determines axonal polarity, with short isoforms contributing to cytoskeletal plasticity and long isoforms aiding stabilization.
Hyper-phosphorylated Tau forms paired helical filaments (PHF), a major component of neurofibrillary lesions in Alzheimer’s disease (AD).
This phosphorylation disrupts microtubule binding, leading to neuronal degeneration.
Kinases involved include GSK-3β, PKA, CDK5, and casein kinase II.
Hyper-phosphorylated Tau is also found in other CNS disorders such as Pick’s disease, frontotemporal dementia, corticobasal degeneration, and progressive supranuclear palsy.
