Product Specific Information
- In Western blots, this antibody does not cross-react with recombinant mouse Complement Component C3d, recombinant human Complement Component C3a, or recombinant human Complement Component C5a.
- Reconstitute at 0.5 mg/mL in sterile PBS.
- Endotoxin level: < 0.10 EU per 1 µg of antibody (LAL method).
Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is the fifth component of complement, playing a crucial role in inflammatory and cell-killing processes. It consists of alpha and beta polypeptide chains linked by a disulfide bridge. The activation peptide C5a, an anaphylatoxin with strong spasmogenic and chemotactic activity, is derived from the alpha chain via cleavage with a convertase. The C5b cleavage product can form a complex with Complement Component C6, forming the basis for the membrane attack complex.
Mutations in this gene cause complement component 5 deficiency, leading to recurrent infections. Defects are also linked to liver fibrosis and rheumatoid arthritis susceptibility.
