Target Information
SLC16A1 encodes Monocarboxylate Transporter 1 (MCT1), which mediates the movement of lactate and pyruvate across cell membranes. Transport of these substrates in tissues such as erythrocytes, muscle, intestine, and kidney occurs primarily via proton-coupled MCT1 activity.
