Target Information
The LRP1 gene encodes an endocytic receptor involved in intracellular signaling, lipid homeostasis, and clearance of apoptotic cells. It is essential for A2M-mediated clearance of secreted amyloid precursor protein and beta-amyloid, the major component of amyloid plaques in Alzheimer’s disease. Expression decreases with age and is reduced in Alzheimer patient brain tissue compared to controls.
