Target Information
Chemokines are a family of proteins involved in leukocyte trafficking during immune surveillance and inflammation. CX3CL1 (Fractalkine) is a CX3C chemokine that mediates leukocyte adhesion and migration through its membrane-bound and soluble forms. Studies indicate that CX3CL1 can suppress production of nitric oxide, IL-6, and TNF-α in activated microglia and neuronal cells, suggesting a neuroprotective role. Its receptor, CX3CR1, also acts as a co-receptor for HIV-1 and HIV-2 envelope fusion and infection, which can be inhibited by CX3CL1.
