Target Information
Caspases are cysteine proteases expressed as inactive precursors that mediate apoptosis by proteolysis of specific substrates. They cleave after aspartic acid residues and are classified into initiator and effector caspases. Initiator caspases (e.g., Caspase-8, Caspase-9) activate effector caspases (e.g., Caspase-3, Caspase-7), leading to cell collapse during apoptosis.
