Target Information

Mitochondrial protein that probably regulates the biogenesis and activity of mitochondria. It stimulates cardiolipin biosynthesis and binds cardiolipin-enriched membranes, recruiting and stabilizing proteins such as prohibitin to organize functional microdomains in mitochondrial membranes. Through regulation of mitochondrial function, STOML2 may be involved in biological processes including cell migration, proliferation, T-cell activation, calcium homeostasis, and cellular stress responses. It is required for mitochondrial hyperfusion, a pro-survival response resulting in increased ATP production. STOML2 may also regulate plasma membrane domains and T-cell activation through association with the T-cell receptor signaling complex.
