Target Information
SERPINA5 encodes a serine proteinase inhibitor (serpin) that inhibits tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) and urokinase (uPA), thus regulating fibrinolysis.
Defects in this gene cause plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 deficiency (PAI-1 deficiency), while elevated expression is linked to thrombophilia.
Alternative splicing results in multiple isoforms.
