Target Information
Albumin is a soluble, monomeric protein that constitutes about half of blood serum protein. It primarily functions as a carrier for steroids, fatty acids, and thyroid hormones, and helps maintain extracellular fluid stability.
It is a globular, unglycosylated serum protein with a molecular weight of approximately 65,000. Synthesized in the liver as preproalbumin, it undergoes cleavage to proalbumin and then to mature albumin in the Golgi apparatus before secretion.
