The monoclonal antibody 8D12 recognizes CD147, a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily also known as EMMPRIN or basigin.
CD147 acts as a tumor cell collagenase-stimulating molecule and plays roles in cell adhesion, T cell activation, and thymocyte cycling.
It is broadly expressed on hematopoietic and non-hematopoietic cells, particularly tumor cells.

Target Information

CD147 (basigin, neurothelin, OX-47, 5A11, CE9, M6, EMMPRIN) is a 50–60 kDa glycoprotein with multiple glycosylated forms.
It is a plasma membrane protein important in:

• Spermatogenesis
• Embryo implantation
• Neural network formation
• Tumor progression

CD147 is highly expressed on metabolically active cells such as lymphoblasts, inflammatory cells, brown adipocytes, and malignant tumor cells.
It facilitates expression of monocarboxylate transporter proteins, extracellular matrix metalloproteinases, and regulates integrin functions.
Also involved in cell development, activation, fetal development, and retinal function.
