Target Information
ArfGAP1 is a 406-amino-acid regulatory protein containing an Arf-GAP domain involved in activation of the GTPase activity of ADP-ribosylation factor (ARF). It acts as a GTPase-activating protein (GAP) for ARF1, promoting hydrolysis of ARF1-bound GTP and facilitating dissociation of coat proteins from Golgi-derived membranes and vesicles. This process is essential for vesicle fusion with target compartments. The activity of ArfGAP1 is stimulated by phosphoinositides and inhibited by phosphatidylcholine. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been reported, and ArfGAP1 is ubiquitously expressed in most tissues.
