Growth hormone secretagogue receptor 1a (GHSR) is a member of the G-protein coupled receptor family.
It may play a role in energy homeostasis and body weight regulation.
Two transcript variants are expressed in multiple tissues and are evolutionarily conserved in fish and swine.
- Transcript 1a encodes the functional receptor for Ghrelin, defining a neuroendocrine pathway for growth hormone release.
- Transcript 1b retains an intron and may attenuate isoform 1a activity.
Mutations in this gene can cause isolated partial growth hormone deficiency.
