Target Information

PRDM2 is a member of the nuclear/histone methyltransferase superfamily, containing an N-terminal PR domain, Rb-binding motif, eight Kruppel-like zinc finger motifs, a nuclear hormone-receptor binding motif, and a C-terminal PR-domain binding motif. It is expressed ubiquitously at low levels and exists in two isoforms:

  • RIZ1 (280 kDa) with PR domain
  • RIZ2 (250 kDa) lacking PR domain

PRDM2 acts as a tumor suppressor involved in cell growth and differentiation. It binds to Retinoblastoma protein, estrogen receptor, GATA-3, and TPA-responsive element (MTE) of the Heme-oxygenase-1 gene. It influences the pathogenesis of Retinoblastoma, transcriptional regulation during neuronal differentiation, and estrogen action. Mutations and hypermethylation of PRDM2 are associated with various human cancers, suggesting its potential as a biomarker.
