Placental Alkaline Phosphatase (PLAP)는 특정 염증성 질환의 조절에 중요한 역할을 하는 막 결합 효소입니다. 이 효소는 임신 3기 태반에서 발현되며, testicular germ cell tumor 식별에 유용합니다. PLAP 양성 체세포 종양은 EMA를 균일하게 발현합니다. PLAP는 matrix mineralization에 관여하는 것으로 제안되었으나, 해당 효소가 결여된 생쥐에서도 정상적인 골격 발달이 관찰됩니다. 또한 PLAP는 고인산효소증(hypophosphatasia)과 직접적으로 연관되어 있으며, 이는 고칼슘혈증 및 골격 결함을 특징으로 합니다. 변이의 종류에 따라 발병 시기와 증상의 심각도가 달라질 수 있습니다.
