Target Information
ERK1 and ERK2 are widely expressed and are involved in the regulation of meiosis, mitosis, and postmitotic functions in differentiated cells.
Various stimuli including growth factors, cytokines, virus infection, G protein-coupled receptor ligands, and transforming agents activate ERK1/2 pathways.
Upon activation, Raf phosphorylates MEK1/2, which in turn phosphorylates ERK1/2. Activated ERKs phosphorylate cytoplasmic targets or migrate to the nucleus to activate transcription factors such as c-Fos and Elk-1.
