PYCRL 유전자는 pyrroline-5-carboxylate reductase 효소 계열에 속하는 단백질을 암호화합니다.
이 효소들은 프롤린 생합성의 마지막 단계에서 pyrroline-5-carboxylate를 프롤린으로 전환하는 반응을 촉매합니다.
Glutamate와 ornithine은 프롤린 합성의 전구체로 작용하며, 이 단백질은 세포질에서 ornithine으로부터 프롤린을 합성하는 과정에 관여합니다.
