Target Information
RPS6KB1 (p70S6K) is a serine/threonine kinase with two non-identical kinase catalytic domains that phosphorylates several residues of the S6 ribosomal protein. It is predominantly localized in the cytoplasm and plays essential roles in growth factor-regulated cell proliferation, cell motility, immune response, and tissue repair.
p70 S6 kinase acts downstream of phosphoinositide (PI) 3-kinase, with its main physiological target being the S6 ribosomal protein, which upregulates protein synthesis. The kinase activity promotes increased protein synthesis and cell proliferation. Amplification and overexpression of p70 S6 kinase are observed in some breast cancer cell lines.
