Target Information
CD10 (Common Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia Antigen, CALLA) is a cell surface enzyme with neutral metalloendopeptidase activity that inactivates various biologically active peptides. It is expressed on lymphoblastic, Burkitt’s, and follicular germinal center lymphoma cells, immature B cells in adult bone marrow, and cells from patients with chronic myelocytic leukemia (CML). CD10 is also found on breast myoepithelial cells, bile canaliculi, fibroblasts, and highly expressed on kidney and gut epithelial brush borders.
CD10 functions as a neutral endopeptidase cleaving peptides at the amino side of hydrophobic residues, inactivating peptide hormones such as glucagon, enkephalins, substance P, neurotensin, oxytocin, and bradykinin. It is a 100 kDa type II transmembrane glycoprotein encoded by a >45 kb gene. The 5′ untranslated region undergoes alternative splicing to produce four mRNA transcripts without affecting the coding region. CD10 dysfunction is associated with spinocerebellar ataxia 43 and Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease.
