This antibody detects endogenous levels of total OXT.
Target Information
The OXT gene encodes two proteins: oxytocin and neurophysin I.
Oxytocin is a posterior pituitary hormone synthesized as an inactive precursor in the hypothalamus along with its carrier protein, neurophysin I.
Together, they are packaged into neurosecretory vesicles and transported to the neurohypophysis, where they are stored or secreted into the bloodstream.
This hormone contracts smooth muscle during parturition and lactation and is involved in cognition, tolerance, adaptation, complex sexual and maternal behavior, as well as regulation of water excretion and cardiovascular functions.
