Target Information
The CD3 subunit complex is crucial for transducing antigen-recognition signals into the cytoplasm of T cells and regulating TCR complex expression.
T cell activation involves CD3 gamma, delta, epsilon, and zeta subunits, which are members of the immunoglobulin superfamily encoded on human chromosome 11.
These subunits have cytoplasmic tails that interact with signal transduction molecules via a double tyrosine-based motif.
CD3 antigens are found on 68–82% of normal peripheral blood lymphocytes, 65–85% of thymocytes, and Purkinje cells, but not on B or NK cells.
Decreased T lymphocyte percentages may occur in autoimmune diseases.
Defects in the CD3 gene are associated with CD3 immunodeficiency.
