Target Information
SRC2 (steroid receptor coactivator 2), also known as nuclear receptor coactivator 2, NCOA2 or TIF2, aids in the function of nuclear hormone receptors. These receptors act as conditional transcription factors, regulating genes involved in cell growth, development, and homeostasis. Members of the nuclear hormone receptor superfamily possess three domains:
- N-terminal transcriptional activation domain
- Central DNA-binding domain
- C-terminal hormone-binding domain
Before hormone binding, steroid receptors remain inactive in a complex with heat-shock protein-90 and other stress-related proteins. Upon hormone binding, they undergo conformational changes, dissociate from inhibitory complexes, bind DNA enhancer elements as homodimers, and modulate transcription. Transcriptional coactivator proteins such as SRC2 are essential for initiating transcription after receptor binding.
