Target Information
B7-H4 (also known as B7x, VTCN1) is a costimulatory protein functioning as a negative regulator of T-cell mediated immunity. Although its receptor remains unknown, B7-H4 is believed to deliver inhibitory signals to T-cells, suppressing proliferation, cell cycle progression, and interleukin-2 production.
It is expressed on activated T-cells, B-cells, monocytes, and dendritic cells. Aberrant expression is associated with cancers of the lung, breast, and ovary.
B7-H4 is primarily located on the membrane of lymphoid cells and acts as an immunoinhibitory protein, interacting with receptors on T lymphocytes to regulate cellular and humoral immune responses.
Overexpression is linked to tumor immune evasion, including ovarian and breast cancers. VTCN1 may serve as a biomarker for early detection of ovarian cancer and renal cell carcinoma (RCC).
