Target Information

NF-kappa-B inhibitor-like protein 1 (NFKBIL1), also named Ikb like and IkbL1, is a 381 amino acid member of the inhibitor of NF-kappaB (IkappaB) family of proteins.
NFKBIL1 contains two ANK repeats and is expressed in the rheumatoid synovial lining and sub-lining layers, co-localized in CD68+ and CD3+ cells, but not Factor VIII+ cells.
Defects in NFKBIL1 expression are reported to cause susceptibility to rheumatoid arthritis (RA), a systemic inflammatory autoimmune disease affecting joints.
RA is characterized by inflammatory changes in synovial membranes and articular structures, widespread fibrinoid degeneration of collagen fibers in mesenchymal tissues, and atrophy and rarefaction of bony structures.
