Target Information
Cell-mediated immune responses are initiated by T lymphocytes that are stimulated by peptides bound to MHC molecules on antigen-presenting cells (APC).
Activated T cells express PD-1 (PDCD-1), a receptor that mediates inhibitory signals from APCs. PD-1 binds ligands PDL-1 and PDL-2, and upon binding, inhibits immune activation unless danger signals (e.g., LPS) are present.
PD-1 knockout mice exhibit hyperactivated immune systems and autoimmune diseases. Despite its predicted molecular weight, PD-1 often migrates at a higher molecular weight in SDS-PAGE.
