Target Information
Activin A receptor kinase (ACVR2A) is a type II member of the TGF-beta family of receptor Serine/Threonine kinases. ACVR2A is involved in the activin and myostatin signaling pathway (Aliases: ACVR2, ACTRII). These receptors are transmembrane proteins composed of a ligand-binding extracellular domain with a cysteine-rich region, a transmembrane domain, and a cytoplasmic domain with predicted serine/threonine specificity. Type I receptors are essential for signaling, while type II receptors are required for ligand binding and type I receptor expression. Upon ligand binding, type I and II receptors form a stable complex, resulting in phosphorylation of type I receptors by type II receptors. Type II receptors are constitutively active kinases.
