Product Specific Information

Anti-Apg8 antibody (also known as Atg8) is an IgG fraction antibody purified from monospecific antiserum by a multi-step process including delipidation, salt fractionation, and ion-exchange chromatography, followed by extensive dialysis against the specified buffer.
Assay by immunoelectrophoresis resulted in a single precipitin arc against anti-Rabbit Serum.
Target Information
Ubiquitin-like proteins fall into two classes:
- Ubiquitin-like modifiers (UBLs) — function as modifiers similar to ubiquitin. Examples: SUMO, Rub1 (Nedd8), Apg8, Apg12.
- Ubiquitin-domain proteins (UDPs) — include parkin, RAD23, and DSK2, containing domains related to ubiquitin but not conjugated to other proteins.
Apg8 is required for autophagy (intracellular bulk protein degradation) in yeast.
During starvation, yeast cells engulf their own cytoplasm into vacuoles via autophagic bodies, forming double-membraned autophagosomes that fuse with vacuoles/lysosomes.
This process is conserved in mammals. Two gene sets, APG and AUT, are involved, responsible for two ubiquitin-like systems: Apg12 and Apg8.
Apg12 is synthesized in its mature form and conjugates primarily with Apg5.
