Target Information
LASS (longevity assurance homolog) family members are highly conserved from yeasts to mammals. Six members (LASS1–LASS6) are involved in sphingolipid synthesis.
LASS4 is a 394 amino acid endoplasmic reticulum multi-pass membrane protein that increases levels of long ceramides (C22:0, C24:0).
In CLN9-deficient cells, as seen in neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis (NCL, Batten disease), LASS4 can elevate ceramide levels and partially correct growth and apoptosis.
