Endothelins are endothelium-derived vasoconstrictor peptides. Endothelin 2 (ET-2), encoded by the EDN2 gene in humans, is a secreted peptide (~2 kDa, 21 amino acids) derived from the endothelin-2 precursor (~20 kDa). It acts as a ligand for endothelin receptors, modulating various cell signaling pathways. Diseases associated with endothelins include aortic disease and patent ductus arteriosus.
